Katie McCullough founded Festival Formula after realising that there was a large gap in filmmakers’ knowledge of the festival circuit. With 14+ years (and counting) experience, she’ll run down why festivals are more relevant than they have ever been today, and how best to prepare for them.
Katie’s background is predominately writing, being a graduate of both Bournemouth Media School in Scriptwriting for Film & TV, and the Royal Court, London. In her past writing career she received funding from Arvon Foundation, support from the ICA Lab, as well as mentoring from the Blaine Brothers, Leo Butler, Polly Clark, and Simon Stephens. She also worked with several companies to create one-on-one theatrical experiences and site specific narratives. Her work was performed at: Arcola, Battersea Arts Centre, ICA, Old Vic Tunnels, Theatre503, Southwark Playhouse, Wales Millennium Centre, and many more.
Katie also has a background in constructing and implementing Social Media Campaigns for a variety of creative projects. These include: industry events at East End Film Festival, SKATE at Somerset House, multiple successful Kickstarter projects for several debut feature films, and she filled the Head of Social Media role for LOCO – London Comedy Film Festival from 2013 – 2016.
Festival Formula was created after discovering a gap in filmmakers’ knowledge, and realising she could help manage their time, expectation, and admin levels. After nine years of providing the service on a word-of-mouth basis she decided to leave the writing and focus on festival strategy by launching Festival Formula and developing it to be the respected and trusted company it is today.
She cannot pick favourite films, but is known to be a massive fan of Magnolia (and American Graffiti, and The Fountain, Harold and Maude, oh and definitely On Body and Soul…).
